Hi Kat! I'm a 52-year old comic artist from Amsterdam, currently living in Germany. I have three cats! And do autobiographing here on Substack, both making and consuming. Love your intro comic! And oh, I'm also a gamer.

Hi Kat. I'm Kinga (which also starts with a K). When I was born my parents had a cat named Murka (and it made no difference to what they did or didn't call me). I love your work!

Hahaha hey Kinga! Murka is a great name for a cat ;) Thanks for saying hi!

Nice to meet you too, Kat. Maybe if i'd been around big dogs more often, i would've been more comfortable around them. You don't have to be jealous of my talent for learning languages, because in my opinion, our different talents are felt more deeply when we compare ourselves based on same ones. Otherwise, if we do so based on talents which are unsame, it'd be like comparing oranges and apples.

Hi, Kat, i'm Negar, a 34-year old from Iran. I'm currently jobless, but i briefly worked as an English teacher in a language institute a few years ago. My hobbys are painting, watching movies and series and reading books. Also, i love cats more than dogs (Mostly small dogs. I'm still a bit uncomfortable around big dogs), and i'm good at learning languages (I've started learning German since last November).

Hi Negar! It’s so nice to meet you :) big dogs take some getting used to, but most of them are friendly! I do not have a knack for learning languages, so I gotta say I’m jealous of your talent

Nice to meet you too, Gillian! My RISO was an investment for sure but it’s the best decision I’ve made!

I’m enjoying drawing with RISO simulating pens in CSP but I’ve never properly printed anything RISO - it is on my want to do list. The colours, saturation and texture are so lovely. Do you have a small machine and do multiple drum swaps or did you go with something larger?

Riso simulation brushes get the texture right for sure! I play around with something similar in Procreate once in awhile. I own a small machine that only holds one ink drum, so I do have to swap out colors every time – it takes a bit more time, but it's not so bad!

Ah! Cool - that sounds doable. Do you always do large runs when you print - is it only worth it if you do? Is there heaps of clean up between colours? Sorry about all the questions! I’m fascinated :)

Don’t apologize – I’m always happy to share what I know :) And it depends! If the print is more complicated to make, I’ll maybe print ~200 prints and just expect it to take a few years to sell them all. But more often I’ll print ~30 prints and will just make more if they sell out. There’s really no clean up between colors! Riso ink never truly dries, so I’ll wait about a day in between switching colors, but otherwise between colors I’ll just wipe down certain parts of the machine with a microfiber cloth and some rubbing alcohol (which doesn’t take more than a minute and is rarely messy!). Actually, the only time that it does get messy is when the screen on an ink drum dries up and I have to coax it back to life…my hand are usually covered in ink for a day or two haha.

Thank you Kat, that sounds doable, I shall file it away in my future possibilities file. Thank you for being so generous with your answers. Xo

Great intro comic! I also think if I go outside, I shall surely perish, and my cats encourage that thinking. Food usually lures me outside, though, and I'm rarely sorry I went. Your Risos are gorgeous!
